More than 40 million people in the United States speak Spanish at home, and in New York it's part of everyday working life. If you collaborate with Spanish-speaking colleagues or clients, a few well-chosen phrases go a long way, long before you're fluent.

Keeping the conversation moving

  1. "¿Podrías repetirlo, por favor?" Could you repeat that, please? Nobody minds, and it shows you're listening.
  2. "Si te entiendo bien…" If I understand you correctly… Perfect for confirming before you respond.
  3. "Buena pregunta." Good question. It buys you a few seconds to think.
  4. "Estoy de acuerdo, pero…" I agree, but… A polite way to add a different view.

Wrapping up

  1. "Entonces, los próximos pasos son…" So, the next steps are…
  2. "Te envío un resumen por correo." I'll send you a summary by email.
  3. "Gracias, que tengan un buen día." Thanks, have a great day.
